The Los Angeles Lakers acquire Ramon Sessions from the Cavaliers

The Los Angeles Lakers have acquired 25-year old point guard Ramon Sessions and 22-year old small forward Christian Eyenga from the Cleveland Cavaliers for 31-year old small forward Luke Walton, 31-year old SG/SF Jason Kapono and the Lakers’ first round pick in the NBA Draft as long as it’s not in the top 14.  Sessions is the big key as the Lakers have a huge hole at point guard.  Sessions played in 41 games (4 starts) for the Cavaliers this year and he averaged 24.5 minutes, 10.5 points, 3.1 rebounds and 5.2 assists per game.  He has now played in 300 games (89 starts) in his first five years in the NBA and he is averaging 25.0 minutes, 11.0 points, 3.1 rebounds and 4.9 assists per game.  Sessions is a good passer and he also can get hot shooting the ball once in a while.  His offensive games revolves around driving to the basket.  He will start from Day #1 for the Lakers at the point.  Christian Eyenga is a high flyer.  He played in only 6 games (0 starts) for the Cavs this year and he averaged 13.8 minutes, 1.5 points, 2.0 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game.  Eyenga has now played in 50 games (18 starts) in his first two years in the NBA and he is averaging 20.6 minutes, 6.2 points, 2.7 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game.

Luke Walton played in only 9 games (0 starts) for the Lakers this year and he averaged 7.2 minutes, 1.3 points, 1.6 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game.  Walton played in 493 games (138 starts) in his 9 years with the Lakers and he averaged 17.3 minutes, 4.9 points, 2.9 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game.  Jason Kapono played in 27 games (0 starts) for the Lakers this year and he averaged 10.0 minutes, 2.0 points, 0.5 rebounds and 0.4 assists per game.  This was a win now deal and the Lakers filled a big need in acquiring Sessions, who is light years better than the Lakers’ point guards this year.  So what if they gave up a first round pick!

Los Angeles Lakers 107, New Orleans Hornets 101 in O.T.

The Lakers outscored the Hornets 14-8 in overtime to down them last night.  Kobe Bryant (33 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals) and Andrew Bynum (25 points, 18 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocked shots) led the way for the Lakers last night.  Pau Gasol also had a solid game with 18 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 1 steal.  Derek Fisher (11 points) and Matt Barnes (10 points) also pitched in for the Lakers last night.  The Lakers are now 27-16 on the year.

Los Angeles Lakers 116, Memphis Grizzlies 111 in 2 O.T.

The Lakers outscored the Grizzlies 13-8 in the 2nd overtime period last night to secure a nice road win.  Andrew Bynum (37 points, 16 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal and 1 blocked shot) and Kobe Bryant (34 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 1 steal) led the way for the Lakers last night with outstanding games.  Pau Gasol pitched in with 14 points, 5 rebounds, 8 assists, 1 steal and 2 blocked shots in this game.  The Lakers are now 26-16 on the year.

Metta World Peace is starting to show signs of life for the Los Angeles Lakers

32-year old small forward Metta World Peace has been playing decent basketball for the Lakers as of late.  In 6 games (all starts) so far in March, World Peace is averaging 31.5 minutes, 10.3 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.8 steals per game.  He has now played in 40 games (21 starts) overall this year for the Lakers and he is averaging 24.1 minutes, 5.8 points, 3.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.0 steal per game.  He is only shooting 35.5% from the floor, 26.3% from the three point line and 58.2% from the free throw line so far this year.  The Lakers need Metta World Peace to keep playing like he is so far in March, the rest of the way in 2011-12.

Los Angeles Lakers 97, Boston Celtics 94

The Lakers shot 50.7% from the floor and they outrebounded the Celtics 42-34, which helped them get a hard fought home win yesterday.  Kobe Bryant (26 points, 3 rebounds, 7 assists, 1 steal and 1 blocked shot) and Andrew Bynum (20 points, 14 rebounds and 2 assists) led the way for the Lakers in this game.  Metta World Peace (14 points, 1 rebound, 2 assists and 2 steals) and Pau Gasol (13 points, 13 rebounds, 5 assists and 1 blocked shot) also pitched in for the Lakers in this game.  The Lakers are now 25-16 on the year.

Los Angeles Lakers 105, Minnesota Timberwolves 102

The Lakers outrebounded the T-Wolves 45-34 last night and it helped them win on the road.  Kobe Bryant led the way for the Lakers with 34 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal and 2 blocked shots.  Andrew Bynum also had an outstanding game with 26 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal and 1 blocked shot.  Pau Gasol also filled up the stat sheet with 12 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal and 2 blocked shots last night.  The Lakers are now 24-16 on the year.

Washington Wizards 106, Los Angeles Lakers 101

The Lakers were outscored 57-37 in the second half by the Wizards and it killed them last night.  Kobe Bryant only shot 9 of 31 from the floor, but he still led the way for the Lakers with 30 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 steals and 1 blocked shot.  Pau Gasol also had a huge game with 19 points, 15 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal and 3 blocked shots.  Andrew Bynum also had a solid game with 19 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist and 2 blocked shots.  The Lakers are now 23-16 on the year.

Detroit Pistons 88, Los Angeles Lakers 85 in O.T.

The Lakers were outscored 34-24 combined in the 4th quarter and O.T. last night and it did them in.  Andrew Bynum had a monster game with 30 points, 14 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 blocked shots to lead the way for the Lakers.  Kobe Bryant only shot 8 of 26 from the floor in this game, but he still finished up with 22 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists.  Pau Gasol also had a rock solid game with 20 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 blocked shots.  The Lakers are now 23-15 on the year.

The Los Angeles Lakers don’t play their rookies much

The Lakers have their eyes on the prize (winning another NBA Championship) so they don’t have much P.T. for rookies.  23-year old shooting guard Andrew Goudelock has played decent basketball when given the chance so far this year.  He has played in 29 games (0 starts) for the Lakers so far this year and he is averaging 11.4 minutes, 4.9 points, 0.7 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game.  21-year old point guard Darius Morris has played in 13 games (0 starts) for the Lakers so far this year and he is averaging 10.3 minutes, 2.7 points, 0.9 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game.  Morris is shooting an really impressive 52% from the floor so far this year.  It says a lot about Morris that he is stuck behind ancient Derek Fisher and Steve Blake at point guard.

The Lakers outrebounded the Heat 44-35 and they played good D in holding them to 37.5% shooting from the floor, which led them to victory.  Kobe Bryant led the way for the Lakers in this game with 33 points, 3 rebounds and 1 assist.  Metta World Peace (17 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 4 steals and 1 blocked shot) and Andrew Bynum (16 points, 13 rebounds, 2 assists and 4 blocked shots) also had rock solid games for the Lakers yesterday.  Pau Gasol pitched in with 11 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal and 1 blocked shot in this game.  The Lakers are now 23-14 on the year.
