The Los Angeles Lakers acquire Ramon Sessions from the Cavaliers
The Los Angeles Lakers have acquired 25-year old point guard Ramon Sessions and 22-year old small forward Christian Eyenga from the Cleveland Cavaliers for 31-year old small forward Luke Walton, 31-year old SG/SF Jason Kapono and the Lakers’ first round pick in the NBA Draft as long as it’s not in the top 14. Sessions is the big key as the Lakers have a huge hole at point guard. Sessions played in 41 games (4 starts) for the Cavaliers this year and he averaged 24.5 minutes, 10.5 points, 3.1 rebounds and 5.2 assists per game. He has now played in 300 games (89 starts) in his first five years in the NBA and he is averaging 25.0 minutes, 11.0 points, 3.1 rebounds and 4.9 assists per game. Sessions is a good passer and he also can get hot shooting the ball once in a while. His offensive games revolves around driving to the basket. He will start from Day #1 for the Lakers at the point. Christian Eyenga is a high flyer. He played in only 6 games (0 starts) for the Cavs this year and he averaged 13.8 minutes, 1.5 points, 2.0 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game. Eyenga has now played in 50 games (18 starts) in his first two years in the NBA and he is averaging 20.6 minutes, 6.2 points, 2.7 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game.
Luke Walton played in only 9 games (0 starts) for the Lakers this year and he averaged 7.2 minutes, 1.3 points, 1.6 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game. Walton played in 493 games (138 starts) in his 9 years with the Lakers and he averaged 17.3 minutes, 4.9 points, 2.9 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. Jason Kapono played in 27 games (0 starts) for the Lakers this year and he averaged 10.0 minutes, 2.0 points, 0.5 rebounds and 0.4 assists per game. This was a win now deal and the Lakers filled a big need in acquiring Sessions, who is light years better than the Lakers’ point guards this year. So what if they gave up a first round pick!
