The Los Angeles Lakers didn’t get a lot out of their rookies, but……..

The Lakers didn’t get a lot of production from first round pick (G) Javaris Crittenton, but, he was the key in the Pau Gasol trade so last June’s Draft has to be graded as very positive. Forward Coby Karl didn’t play very well but he didn’t get much of a chance to show what he could do. Karl played in 17 games (0 starts) for the Lakers this season and he averaged 4.2 minutes, 1.8 points, 0.8 rebounds and 0.5 assists per game. Karl only shot 34.6% from the floor and he likely won’t get more playing time unless he shoots better.

Coby Karl is the only rookie left on the Los Angeles Lakers roster

With the trade of Javaris Crittenton to the Grizzlies, Karl is the lone rookie on the Lakers roster. Karl has played in 14 games (0 starts) this season for the Lakers and he is averaging 3.7 minutes, 1.4 points, 0.8 rebounds and 0.5 assists per game. Karl is only shooting 28.6% from the floor but it’s hard for him to get into a rhythm due to lack of playing time. Still, his playing time likely won’t change any time soon as Karl is buried on the depth chart.

The Los Angeles Lakers have no time for rookies yet

The Lakers have not had much time for rookies Javaris Crittenton and Coby Karl to play yet but they like both players for the future. Crittenton has played in 10 games so far this season and he is averaging 5.6 minutes, 2.1 points, 0.9 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game. He is shooting 50% from the floor which is pretty solid. He will battle Jordan Farmar in the near future for the starting point guard job. Coby Karl has only played in 2 games this season and he is averaging 2.0 minutes, 1.0 point, 0.5 rebounds and 1.0 assist per game. Karl is a smart player along the lines of a Luke Walton.

The Los Angeles Lakers were pleased with rookie Jordan Farmar

Jordan Farmar did a good job as a reserve point guard as a rookie for the Lakers this season. He played in 72 games and he averaged 15.1 minutes, 4.4 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game. He could be a future starter for the Lakers and it’s cool that he’s from UCLA. It has to be a dream come true for Farmar to be a Laker.

Lakers pleased with rookie guard’s play

The Lakers have been very pleased with the play of rookie guard Jordan Farmar. Farmar has played both shooting guard and point guard for the team and played both of them well. Farmar has played in 45 games and is averaging 16.7 minutes, 5.6 points, 1.7 rebounds and 2.2 assists. He’s also been a good shooter as he’s hitting 46% from the floor and 35.4% on his three point attempts. Another good thing about Farmar is the Lakers didn’t have to go far to scout him as he played at UCLA in college.
